Sober curious is exactly what it sounds like: curiosity about drinking less, or not at all, without necessarily signing a lifetime contract. The term took off after writer Ruby Warrington's 2018 book of the same name, and by now it is less a trend than a permanent lane. If you are wandering into that lane, here is a starter kit with zero lectures inside.
1. Something good in your glass
The fastest unlock is a drink you actually look forward to. The non-alcoholic shelf went from sad near-beer to a legitimate category: NA beers, botanical spirits, hop waters, functional sodas. The trick is treating it like a real choice, not a consolation prize.
2. A ritual replacement
Most habits are really rituals wearing a costume. The after-work drink is often just the after-work signal that the day is over. Swap the signal, keep the ritual: a walk, a specific playlist, a treat that marks the transition. This is, not coincidentally, where a strain-flavored taffy earns its spot: it speaks the language of unwinding without the intoxication clause. Our Botanical line has zero THC, zero CBD, and zero hemp, so it fits any definition of sober you are working with.
3. A flavor with some culture in it
Part of what people miss is not the substance, it is the culture around it: the tasting notes, the connoisseurship, the fun of preference. Cannabis strain culture has all of that in abundance, and terpenes are how you access it sober. Learning you are a limonene person or a linalool person is exactly as fun as learning your wine palate, minus the morning after. Start at the Terpene Library or take the strain quiz.
4. Your people
The sober-curious internet is enormous and welcoming, from online communities to dry-month challenges to sober bars in most major cities. Curiosity is easier in company.
5. Permission to be unlabeled
You do not have to pick a term. Sober curious, California sober (we wrote about that one too), moderating, just cutting back: the labels are shorthand for other people's convenience. The only requirement is paying attention to what you actually want. That is the whole kit. No lecture, as promised.
