Jack Herer is one of the most respected sativas ever bred, named for the cannabis author and activist. It is a benchmark strain, the one many others are measured against for bright, clear character, and it remains a favorite decades after its creation.

Who was Jack Herer, the person?

Jack Herer (1939 to 2010) was an American cannabis activist and author, often called the Emperor of Hemp. His 1985 book The Emperor Wears No Clothes made the case for industrial hemp and for ending cannabis prohibition, and it was reprinted for decades. He ran for president twice on the Grassroots Party ticket and spent the rest of his life campaigning for legalization. Sensi Seeds named the strain in his honor in the 1990s, and it won the High Times Cannabis Cup several times. Searches for the man land on the strain, and vice versa; both deserve the page.

Lineage

Jack Herer was created in the Netherlands and is widely described as a cross of a Haze hybrid with Northern Lights and Shiva Skunk. That heritage gives it both sativa lift and a resinous backbone, a balance that helped make it a classic.

Aroma and flavor

Piney and spicy with bright citrus and a fresh, herbal edge. It is clean and complex rather than sweet or gassy, an aroma that reads as crisp and almost peppery.

The terpenes behind it

Jack Herer is one of the rare strains where terpinolene is widely reported to lead, giving it that complex fresh-floral-pine character, supported by caryophyllene and pinene for spice and lift. Our botanical version matches that character with plant-derived terpenes. See the terpene library.

The vibe

Jack Herer is a Daytime strain in the MONDAYS vibe system, crisp and lively. That describes its character and aroma, not a promised effect.
