Terpenes and Sleep

Sleep is one of the most common things people ask about when it comes to terpenes and cannabis strains. It is a fair question, and there is real research to talk about. It also comes with real limits, and we are going to be straight about both. Everything below describes what studies have explored in the terpene compounds themselves. None of it is a claim that a MONDAYS chew will help you sleep.

The terpenes most associated with sleep research

Myrcene is the terpene most often connected to rest. A 2002 study by do Vale and colleagues in Phytomedicine found that myrcene, at high doses, increased sleeping time in mice, and a 2024 study by Wang and colleagues in Pharmaceuticals identified beta-myrcene as a sedative-hypnotic component of lavender oil in a mouse insomnia model.

Linalool, the lavender terpene, is the other big one. A 2018 study by Harada, Kashiwadani, and colleagues in Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience found that the odor of linalool produced calming effects in mice, through the sense of smell. And terpinolene tested as sedative in mice in a 2013 study by Ito and Ito.

The honest limits

Here is the part most pages leave out. Almost all of this research is in mice, not people. The linalool findings came from animals smelling the compound, and the myrcene findings used doses far higher than anything in a food. These studies tell you which terpenes scientists have found interesting in connection with rest. They do not show that eating a terpene chew will make you sleepy, and we are not going to imply that they do.

The MONDAYS vibe

In our vibe system, the strains richest in these terpenes fall into the Evening and Cozy tags. If a mellow, wind-down character is what you are after, that is the corner to explore: Kosher Kush, LA Confidential, and London Pound Cake. We are describing character and aroma, not promising an effect.

Frequently asked questions

Do terpenes help you sleep?

Some terpenes, especially myrcene and linalool, have been studied in connection with sleep and sedation, mostly in animals. The human evidence is limited, and we make no claim that our chews affect sleep.

Which MONDAYS vibe is best for evening?

Our Evening and Cozy strains, like Raspberry Relief and the botanical Kosher Kush x Red Raspberry, carry the terpenes most associated with a mellow character.

Will a MONDAYS chew make me drowsy?

We make no such claim. Our chews contain zero THC and zero CBD and are candy. Any terpene research described here is about the compounds, not the product.
