Terpenes and Relaxation
Relaxation is probably the single most common association people have with certain strains, so it is worth looking at what the research actually says, and where it stops. Everything below describes studies of the terpene compounds themselves, mostly in animals. None of it is a claim that a MONDAYS chew will relax you.
The terpenes most associated with calming research
Linalool, the lavender terpene, has the deepest connection here. A 2018 study by Harada, Kashiwadani, and colleagues in Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience found that the odor of linalool produced anxiolytic, or anxiety-reducing, effects in mice, working through the sense of smell and the GABA system.
Caryophyllene is another. A 2014 study by Bahi and colleagues in Physiology & Behavior reported anxiolytic and antidepressant-like effects in mice, mediated through the CB2 receptor. And limonene showed anti-stress activity in a 2006 mouse study by Komiya and colleagues, linked to serotonin signaling.
The honest limits
The pattern by now is familiar. These are animal studies, several relying on inhalation or injection rather than eating, at doses set in a lab. They are genuinely interesting, and they are why these terpenes have their reputations. They are not evidence that a terpene chew produces calm, and we will not present them as if they were.
The MONDAYS vibe
In our vibe system, the strains richest in these terpenes fall into the Cozy and Evening tags. For a mellow, settled character, explore LA Confidential and Kosher Kush. We are describing character and aroma, not promising an effect.
Frequently asked questions
Do terpenes help you relax?
Linalool, caryophyllene, and limonene have all been studied in connection with calming and anti-stress effects, mostly in animals. Human evidence is limited, and we make no claim that our chews affect how you feel.
Which MONDAYS vibe is best for winding down?
Our Cozy and Evening strains, like Raspberry Relief, carry the terpenes most associated with a mellow character.
Are MONDAYS chews calming?
We make no such claim. They contain zero THC and zero CBD and are candy. The research here describes the compounds, not the product.
